Sri Lanka is a tropical surf destination rich with culture and history, bejewelled with exquisite palm-fringed beaches, turquoise waters, lush tea plantations and warm local smiles.

Polhena is the perfect base to explore an abundance of breaks dotted along the southern coastline. From mellow waves for beginners to monster reef breaks for the seasoned surfer, this area will acquaint you with a vast range of peeling lefts and rights, secluded point and reef breaks, and no shortage of great tube rides.

Surfing:

Sri Lanka is considered one of the most reliable surf destinations on the planet thanks to consistent Indian Ocean swells all year long, but the very best months are from October through to April as the monsoon in the island's northeast generates steady offshore winds to the south, for waves of perfection.  During the main surfing season predominant swells come from the SW and hit shores of Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. This direction of swell causes waves to break both to the left and right which offers both regular and goofy footers great fun.

You can also surf this area from April to October and enjoy nice swells but the wind will be more from the SE direction and offers slightly more wind this time of year with fewer offshore conditions but still never less a great time to visit. Your surfing lessons will take place in the next town of Weligama and we will transfer you accordingly for each lesson.

Accommodation:

Your accommodation is located in walking distance to the surfing paradise Polhena and the Madiha surf point. It’s an excellent small surfing resort with many facilities including - Ayurvedic massage, Air conditioning, Internet, in house Restaurant, 24/7 Security etc. The rooms are ensuite, comfortable bed linen, room service around the clock, and all rooms have a wonderful beach view. An attractive chill out spot under the coconut palm shade is also available and is the perfect place to stay in when the sun sets in the west.

All rooms have a private balcony or seating area and one floor has its own separate living area. The food is truly local Sri Lankan and is focused on sea-food. It doesn’t take much to tantalize the taste buds. With a touch of lime and pepper an endless variety of fish, Lobster, Jumbo Prawn, Cuttlefish etc. and best of all the Sea food freshly picked from the local fishermen. The long delicious menu that has everything from Italian to Chinese, you name it they have it. Beer is Available at the accommodation but any drink can be made available on request.
