Surfing is relatively new to the Maldives, especially compared to more established activities such as scuba diving, so you will not find surf shops or a surf industry but you will find amazing surf so Maldives is now firmly on the world's surf map. 

The Maldives are a group of over 1200 islands formed from coral & located south west of India in the Indian Ocean. It is a tropical island paradise with pristine clear waters and world renowned for it’s surfing & diving. The surf throughout the Maldives generally ranges in size from 4-8 feet, and a great variety of reef breaks exist ranging in intensity for all levels of surfer. They experience a similar surf season to that of Indonesia with the best waves being found from May to October.

The open Surf Charter and crew will take you to some of the most secluded anchorages in the Northern Male Atolls. As well as the main boat, there's a dinghy and a support dhoni (the dhoni is the traditional Maldivian boat design, ideally suited for use in shallow lagoons). The support dhoni improves access to the waves and anchorages at all tides, and allows for splitting the group between breaks - sometimes two or three surfers have a break all to themselves. Dawn and evening surf time is increased as the main boat can be in a safe anchorage while the support dhoni is used for dawn and evening sessions.
