Surfing:
Surfing is a unique experience that can be considered both an art form and an athletic pursuit. It is a lifestyle and a great recreational activity that is not only a lot of fun but also promotes physical fitness, great health, alleviates and relieves stress. Caught up in fast-paced lives of the new millennium, surfing is the ultimate way to get back into touch with nature. Surfing requires that you focus on the moment and as a result, all the stress from that Fast-paced life is left on land.
So you're in Costa Rica. You're surrounded by a lush rainforest. The lapping waves of Santa Teresa's pristine beaches await your attention. Perfect for beginners to those with more intermediate skills, our surf instructors have chased waves all over the world and know exactly how to teach you the skills of catching a wave in a safe and fun way. If you have no experience with surfing, no problem there's no better place in the world to learn. To do so, your program will provide you with personalized instruction every day. Unlike other surf camps, we prefer to keep it small- in doing so, we keep the attention on personalized service during the surf classes.
Accommodation:
Lucero Surf Retreats is located on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast on the Nicoya Peninsula. The blooming village of Santa Teresa is situated in the middle of Costa Rica's surfing mecca. What was once just five years ago a dirt road and a few small hostels is now brimming with international tourists and worldwide wave-chasers! As a guest of Lucero Surf Retreats you will be staying at an exclusive beautiful-resort- Otro lado, only 25 meters from the ocean. With luxurious little villas that can accommodate up to four guests. Surrounded by a tropical lush garden, a pool to cool off in and a small restaurant to enjoy your breakfast and lunches. In the morning the nice wooden floor of the restaurant turns into a private yoga studio!
Cuisine:
As part of your package, you'll receive two complementary meals a day for the duration of your trip. Breakfast and Lunch. We emphasize a balanced diet and make plentiful use of locally grown, organic produce. With simple menus and fresh ingredients along with fish harvested literally footsteps away, we encourage food at its essence. Being in the center of Santa Teresa, there are enough places to try out the local café/restaurant scene for dinner.

Breakfast
Served buffet style, you'll start your mornings with a mix of fresh, assorted fruits, granola, yogurt, fresh-baked breads and an array of cheeses and spreads. Beverages include real Costa Rican coffee and the option of fresh-squeezed juices and/or smoothies.
Lunch
Presented ‘al fresco’ our lunch selection varies from fresh salads- cold soups and a variety of premium flat bread sandwiches.The menu shows plenty of choices and the staff is flexible in customizing your own sandwich when ingredients are available. Vegetarians are welcome and dietary restrictions will be met with utmost care.
Dinner
Although dinners are not included in the package- our restaurant serves delicious dishes every night. Menu examples are fresh caught sea bass with spinach lime cream or potatoes Portobello mushrooms, gnocchi blue cheese and nuts.
The town of Santa Teresa has many excellent restaurants nearby. From traditional Costa Rican sodas, French cuisine and Sushi. Please ask our staff for recommendations and info.....
Relaxation
Yoga
No trip to Costa Rica would be complete without the morning sun on your face and a relaxing yoga session. Daily yoga sessions are included in your package. The purpose of these sessions is to not only relax you but also prepare your body for all the physical challenges of surfing. We seek to build your core strength, increase flexibility, and open your mind to new possibilities. By the end of the week, you'll understand why yoga and surfing go together so well. For those that would like private instruction, we will happily arrange a one-on-one with our certified yoga instructor.
Massage and Healing
As part of the program, you'll receive a one-hour personal relaxation session. Our instructor offers not only massage therapy but is also certified in Reiki Healing. You can pick which option best appeals to your individual needs. Reiki healing is perfect for unlocking your charkas, opening your mind to new possibilities, and preparing your body for the challenges of the day. The therapeutic massage soothes away tired muscles and the tension of riding the waves. Both options have their benefits and you may consider adding one service to complement the other!
Tidal Pools
One of the compelling features of Santa Teresa is the beautiful tidal pools scattered down the beach. Some are hidden and some lie directly in front of Lucero Surf Retreats.
Activities
Montezuma Waterfalls
Just a short drive away, lies the beautiful Montezuma Waterfalls. One of the most famous attractions on the Nicoya Peninsula, no trip would be complete without a splash in its pure water. Offering a flexible itinerary, Lucero’s guide will escort guests on a day outing into its quaint fishing village. You are encouraged to check out the town of Montezuma with its various boutiques, cafes and maybe even have a cocktail or try the local beer.
Additional
Although we’ve tried to pack in as much activities as any person can handle in just one week, we realize that there are a few never-stopping adventurists out there. For you guys, we will gladly arrange any of the following supplemental activities: Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, Canopy Tours and Horse-back riding.
Another option is an outing on the sea. You’ll brave the coast’s mellow waters in a fishing boat. Getting an opportunity to observe marine life, you’ll also get the opportunity to catch your own fish.
Do something for you AND something for Costa Rica.
By joining us in our program, you are automatically helping others. A certain percentage of profits goes to the local community. With this money, projects can be started, kids can attend school, and wildlife can be saved. In the near future, you'll be able to read about our ongoing projects online.
After you arrive in San Jose, you'll have a few options. A.)If time is a consideration, we recommend flying a bit further.The closest airport is Tambor (about 30-minutes from Santa Teresa). The flight costs approximately $70 each way, and is a 30-minute flight. We can make this booking for you. If you prefer to do this yourselves use the following website: www.flysansa.com. Once in Tambor, taxis are readily available and should not cost but around $20-$30 to Santa Teresa.
B.)For those of you that prefer to rough it a bit more and perhaps soak in the scenic views along the way, we suggest taking a shuttle bus. At a cost of $35 each way, this 7 hour trip will include a 90-minute ferry ride and a trip through Costa Rica's countryside. You will be picked up from the airport and dropped of at Lucero in Santa Teresa. Private taxi-vans are available for about $150 and are great for large groups. We'd be happy to arrange this for you on request as well.
